Third World Newsreel (TWN) is proud to announce the new group of fellows for our 2024 Production Workshop. This year, we have nine aspiring and emerging filmmakers working on new social justice media projects. The fellows are Julio Anta, Jennica Carmona, Yusuf Demirors, Tarshia Griffin, Stephen Han, Cecilia Lim, Sonyi Lopez, Fabrice Nozier, and Clarivel Ruiz.

Now in its 47th year, the six-month program provides an immersive experience in filmmaking, from scripting to post-production, taught by seasoned professionals. It’s designed for those dedicated to storytelling with a purpose. Graduates have gone on to be nominated for Oscars, win Emmys, establish influential production companies, create non-profits and organize for social change.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in hands-on projects, ensuring they leave with not only knowledge but also a finished short film. The workshop emphasizes the importance of collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking — skills essential for success in film and entertainment.

The workshop is led by filmmaker activists Chrystian Rodriguez, Daniel Kim, Neha Gautam and JT Takagi.

“Third World Newsreel’s workshop is more than just a training program; it’s a launchpad for filmmakers who aspire to make a difference through their art,” says JT Takagi, Executive Director at TWN.

The TWN Production Workshop is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the governor and the State legislature, public funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the City Council, the Golden Globe Foundation, the Kolibri Foundation, the Peace Development Fund and individual donors.
