Third World Newsreel sponsors free “zoom in” series of workshops on various production topics aimed particularly at emerging media makers of color and their audiences, in the spring and fall.

Thursday, March 4th at 4:00 PM: Are you Ready for Distribution? Film Shorts and Public Broadcast

Join film producer Cass Gardiner and film programmer Emily Abi-Kheirs for an insider’s perspective on how to prepare to distribute your short film or broadcast your independent film. Presented by Third World Newsreel and the Documentary Forum at CCNY. RSVP to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/are-you-ready-for-distribution-short-films-and-broadcast-tickets-142175812683?aff=medium

Tuesday, Mar 9th at 6:30 PM: THE WOMAN’S FILM with filmmakers Louise Alaimo and Judith Smith

In 1971, the Women’s Caucus of San Francisco Newsreel made this groundbreaking film about the start of the second feminist wave- with women across class and race speaking out. Louise Alaimo and Judith Smith were key members of that group, and will speak with the film, kindly preserved by NY Women in Film and Television’s Women’s Film Preservation Fund. RSVP: TBA

Tuesday, Mar 16th: THROUGH THE NIGHT with filmmaker Loira Limbal

THROUGH THE NIGHT is a cinema verité portrait of three working NY mothers whose lives intersect at a 24-hour daycare center: a mother working the overnight shift as an essential worker at a hospital; another holding down three jobs to support her family; and a woman who for over two decades has cared for the children of parents with nowhere else to turn. RSVP: TBA

Monday, March 29th at 6:30 PM: MLK/FBI and filmmaker Sam Pollard

Prolific filmmaker and editor Sam Pollard’s new film has been shortlisted for the Oscar in the documentary feature category. But he also released Black Art: In the Absence of Light, just this February on HBO. Watch the film and hear from this truly master filmmaker. RSVP: TBA
